Wore it to the dinner
Wore this to my retirement dinner over a navy suit and there was enough room to do it without feeling squeezed. A few of the old crew said I looked sharp, one called it distinguished and asked for the link. Pockets are deep, my reading glasses lived in one all night.
Better in person
Pictures dont really show the texture. In person it looks richer, kind of woven. Got a lot of looks walking over to the station this week. Happy with it, would buy again.
Top row fought me
The buttonholes stayed really stiff all through week one, I fought with the top row every morning. They have loosened up now and I barely notice. Apart from that it is a lovely heavy coat, warm over a cardigan, and the pockets are properly deep. Colour matches the photos.
Finally long enough
Im 6'4 and every coat I have owned stops somewhere around the hip and looks like a jacket on a giant. This one actually falls past my knees like it should. Sleeves reach my wrists too which almost never happens for me. Very happy.
Hard to shop for
Bought this for my father in law who is impossible to shop for. He put it on, said nothing, then wore it to service the following Sunday and three people wanted to know where he found it. Now he pretends it was his own idea. Shoulders sit right and the lining is smooth.
Birthday hit
My son in law is a quiet man and hard to read, so I took a chance on this for his birthday. He sent a photo wearing it that same evening, which tells me plenty. He says the double breasted front keeps the wind right out.
Worth the wait
Delivery ran a few days past what the estimate said, so I was a little impatient, but the coat arrived folded in the box with just a couple of light creases that hung out overnight. After that I had no complaints at all. The cloth has a lovely texture, the lapels are broad and stand up properly when I want them to, and the pockets swallow gloves and a paperback. Fits over a jumper easily.
Wind stays outside
Stood at a bus stop in a stiff breeze last week and honestly felt nothing. The double breasted front overlaps enough that the wind cannot find a gap. Collar turned up covers my ears and neck. Better than the scarf I usually bother with.
Compliments walking in
Walked into the office on Monday and the receptionist stopped me to say the coat looked great. Then two guys from sales said the same thing by lunch. I did not expect that for a green coat but the shade is deep and earthy not loud.
Replaced three coats
I used to own three coats for three kinds of weather and this one has taken over most of that work. It keeps the cold out on a morning walk, it looks right over a suit, and it does not feel stuffy indoors. Two rows of buttons make the front feel solid. Cloth shows lint a little, so a lint roller lives near the door, but that is the only thing I could complain about.
Acceptable, said dad
Ordered this for my father who has a closet full of coats he never wears because nothing is quite right. Fingers crossed when it arrived. He tried it on, pulled the lapels up, looked in the mirror and said fine, that is acceptable, which in our family is high praise. A week later he wore it on a long drive up to see his sister and wears it nearly every day now the weather turned.
Christening day coat
Wore it to my grandson's christening and then to the lunch afterward. It looked smart without being fussy, and I did not take it off in the church which was freezing. Lots of kind words from the family. The strap on the back is a nice touch, even if it never really adjusts.
Sixty wears, no pilling
Roughly sixty wears now since last autumn, counting only the ones I remember. No pilling at the elbows, no fraying at the cuffs, and every button is still tight. I brush it down on Sunday nights and that is about all the care it needs. The cloth has held its shape better than my last two coats.
Sharp lapels
Broad lapels that stay up once you turn them. Very smart looking, almost formal. Cloth is soft against the neck and no loose threads anywhere, which surprised me a little.
Looks pricier than it was
The texture in the cloth is the first thing people notice, it looks like something from a much more expensive shop. I keep everything else plain, black trousers and a grey sweater, and let the coat do the talking. Brown boots go well with the green.
Statement coat done right
I bought this for my brother, who normally wears black and grey and nothing else. Olive green was a gamble. He rang me the day it came to say he loved it and that strangers on the platform kept looking at it. He keeps the rest of his outfit plain now, dark jeans and a white shirt, and lets the coat be the thing. It sits properly across the shoulders and the length is generous.
Long on my husband
Bought for my husband who is about 5'7. It is a lot of length on him, nearly mid calf. He likes the look once he got used to it but we may have it hemmed a bit. The fabric and the lining feel sturdy, and the color is lovely in daylight.
Takes up room
Coat is great but it is big in every sense. It hogs the hook by the door, covers the whole back seat of my car when I lay it down, and I cannot stuff it in a bag. Worth it for the warmth though, and it looks sharp.
Looks like an old film
Two different people at work asked if it was vintage. One said I looked like I walked out of an old black and white movie, which I decided to take well. The shade is a quiet earthy olive and the cloth has a slight texture you only notice up close.
Milestone dinner coat
My thirtieth anniversary dinner called for something better than my usual padded jacket. Wore this over a charcoal suit with a pair of brown shoes and my wife said I looked like I had stepped out of a black and white picture. The lining did not catch on my jacket sleeves when I took it off. The hem falls well below the knee. It felt like an occasion and the coat matched it.
