Right weight for autumn

This is the jacket for the six weeks either side of winter when a coat is too much and a jumper is not enough. It has enough wool in it to block a wind and it is light enough that you can keep it on indoors without cooking. I have worn it almost daily since the middle of September. I had been looking at something similar at nearly three times this and could not justify it. Took a chance here and I cannot work out what the extra money would have bought me. The cloth has weight, the lining is stitched in properly and the zip is a decent one. Nothing about it feels like a compromise. I would spend the same again tomorrow.
Pocket is behind the zip

Solid jacket. The one interior pocket sits behind the zip, so to get anything out you have to unzip the whole front. Fine standing still, annoying on a cold platform.
Over a jumper easily

Regular fit with genuine room, so a thick jumper goes underneath and the zip still closes with nothing straining. That is definately what I wanted it for. The sleeves are cut wide enough that a knit sleeve does not bunch at the elbow either.
Front curls when open

Good jacket, well made, fits properly. Because it is a zip and not a button front there is no placket holding the edges, so worn open the front edges curl outward a little. Zipped up it is perfect. I mostly wear it zipped now for that reason.
Good in the car

Cuffs sit close

The buttoned cuff pulls the sleeve in at the wrist, which stops the draught that plain openings let in eiher side. It is a small detail that most jackets at this money skip entirely and it makes a real difference on a cold morning. Whoever specified that had actually worn a jacket.
Shade is warmer than expected

The camel is warmer and richer than it looks on screen, closer to a proper tan than the flat beige I was braced for. It sits well against navy and against dark denim. Much easier to wear than I thought a light colour would be. I nearly ordered the black instead and I am glad I did not. The photographs really do not do it justice.
Flap pockets are deep

Both front pockets go a proper depth rather than being decorative slits, so keys and a phone sit at the bottom instead of perched at the opening. I was suprised how much the flaps keep the rain off whatever is in them.
Denim rubs off on it

Really like this jacket. Worth knowing that a pale shade against raw denim will pick up dye at the cuffs and around the hem after a few wears. It brushes out and a clean took it back to new, but if you live in dark jeans keep an eye on it.
Goes under an overcoat

In deep winter it works as a middle layer under a proper coat. The shirt collar lies flat so there is nothing bunching at the neck, and because it is a zip there is no double row of buttons adding bulk at the chest. That doubles the months it gets used.
Zip runs clean

Proper metal zip with a backing tape behind it so it does not catch on the lining. It has not jammed once in four months of daily use, which is a good deal more than I can say for the last two things I bought with a zip in them. Small thing to get right and plenty of people do not.
Daily wear, no wear

Zip beats buttons

I have three wool jackets with buttons and I never do any of them up because it takes too long. This one zips in a second and that is the whole reason it gets worn. Straight on over a jumper on the way out of the door, zipped to the chest, done. Sounds lazy and it is, but it is why it lives on the hook.
