Colour has not gone dull

A full season of wear and it is the same shade at the shoulders as it is at the hem. Pale dyes usually go patchy across the top first, so I had been braced for it and hung the thing away from a window all summer for nothing.

There are only the two flap pockets and they are set high for carrying rather than for hands, so on a cold morning there is genuinely nowhere to put them. I have gone back to carrying gloves after two years of not needing to. Worth knowing if you are used to a jacket with side openings.

Reads bulkier than it is

No fault with the cut, which is a proper regular fit. A pale shade simply carries more visually than a dark one, so the same amount of cloth looks like more of it. In photographs I look broader in this than in my charcoal jacket, which is cut identically. It has not put me off wearing it, but I did notice.

Flaps sit crooked in wind

Well made and I am keeping it. The two flaps have no stud or button holding them down, so a decent gust lifts them and they settle back at an angle. You end up straightening them without thinking. Nothing falls out and it does not affect how warm it is. It is purely something you notice in a mirror.
Shirt collar suits the colour

The single interior pocket is not cut deep, so a phone goes in and sits about half proud of the opening rather than dropping out of the way. It has not fallen out yet but I keep checking it. Another inch of depth would have solved it entirely.
Nobody reads it as workwear

The shape is straight off a work jacket and the colour takes all of that away. In navy or charcoal this cut looks like something you would wear to lay a floor. In camel it looks deliberate, and I have worn it into places where the utility version would have been wrong. That is entirely down to the shade.
Zip pull sits flat

Cannot find the compromise

I looked at things at nearly double this and still cannot work out where the extra money would have gone. The cloth has body, the zip is solid, the cuffs actually fasten and the lining is stitched in at the hem rather than tacked on at the corners. If there is a compromise somewhere in here I have spent a season looking for it and have not found it.

Reaching across a table, lifting a box off a shelf, driving with both hands high on the wheel, and there is no drag across the shoulder blades and no strain at the seam.
