One clean, no shrinkage

Small collar

Beautiful coat and I wear it constantly. The collar is on the small side, so turned up it does not really cover the back of the neck and it will not stay up on its own. A scarf solves it entirely, but you will be wearing one from about November. Everything else about the coat is genuinely very good, so this is a note rather than a warning.
Commuting coat sorted

It goes straight onto the back of a chair and comes off it looking fine. That is the whole test for a coat you wear five days a week.
Wears over everything

Pockets sit too high

Lovely coat and it fits beautifully. The two outer pockets are set quite high on the body, so they are not really hand warmers and you end up holding your arms up to use them. They are deep and they hold plenty, they are just in the wrong place for cold hands. Everything else about it is right and I would order it again.
Sits above a boot

Three quarter length sits above the top of a knee boot rather than fighting it, so the proportions work. That sounds obvious and most of my coats get it wrong by an inch or two. We have both stopped looking at the expensive end.
Hem flares in wind

No complaint about the make of it. It is a straight cut at three quarter length, so with a wind behind you the hem lifts and flares out. Fine in town where there is shelter, less so on an open platform. I hold it down and get on with it. It is a design consequence rather than a fault in the making.
Lining is properly stitched

Turned it inside out before wearing it. The lining is sewn in at the hem rather than tacked, the seams are bound and there are no loose threads. That is usually the first place a cheap coat shows itself and this one does not.
Buttons stand off the cloth

Properly weighted and sewn on with a shank so they stand off the cloth. On a double breasted front you fasten and unfasten twice as often as a single row, so it matters more here than it would elsewhere. None have loosened, which suprised me.
Second winter now

Bought it last October, worn several times a week through the season, put away in a cover in April and back out last month. It looks the same. No pilling where a bag strap sits, no fading at the shoulders, and the front still hangs straight when it is fastened. I expect a third season out of it without any trouble.
Fits true

Warm without a scarf indoors

Double breasted keeps wind out

Two layers of wool across the chest means nothing gets through the front, which is definately the whole point of the design. On a platform in a headwind I feel it on my face and nowhere else. My single breasted coat never managed that.
Rain runs into the sleeve

Really good coat and I would order it again. The sleeve ends in a plain opening with no strap or cuff detail, so in proper rain water runs down your arm and gets in at the wrist. Gloves fix it. On a dry cold day it is not an issue at all. It is the one thing I would change about it.
Present that worked
