Smart enough for the office

I recieved it expecting to wear it only at weekends and it has been to work most days since November. Over tailoring it reads as heritage rather than outdoorsy, which is entirely down to the colour. In navy or olive I do not think it would work the same way at all.
Cloth has heft

You can tell the moment you lift it out of the box. It has weight to it without feeling like a blanket, and it hangs from the shoulder rather than collapsing in on itself. The wool blend here is a good deal better than the price would lead you to expect.
Came back the same

End of season clean and it came back with no shrinkage, the toggles intact and the shade unchanged. On a pale coat that was the thing I was most nervous about and there was nothing to worry about at all. It went back into a cover looking exactly as it had when it arrived.
Best coat I have owned

I do not say that lightly and I have owned some expensive ones. It is the combination of the shape, the weight of the cloth and the fact that it works over a suit and over jeans equally well. Nothing else in the wardrobe covers that much ground and nothing else gets worn half as often. I expect to be wearing it in ten years and I am not exaggerating.
Wool has softened nicely

Three months in and the cloth has relaxed slightly without losing its shape, and the toggles have darkened where you handle them. It is starting to look like a coat that belongs to somebody rather than one out of a box, which is what you want, and I was suprised how quickly it happened.
Pocket openings are narrow

Really good coat. The patch pockets are deep but the openings are cut fairly narrow, so getting a gloved hand in and out catches slightly and I have pulled a glove off twice doing it. Bare handed there is no issue with them whatsoever. Everything else about the coat has been completely faultless so far this winter and I would order it again.
Works over jeans too

I bought it thinking it was a smart coat and it works just as well over a jumper and jeans on a Saturday. The colour is what does it. It reads relaxed rather than smart.
Patch pockets take everything

Both front pockets are enormous and properly lined, so gloves and a phone and a set of keys all live in there and your hands still fit alongside them. On a cold morning they are the warmest part of the coat and that is not an accident. On a cold morning you find yourself standing with both hands in them without noticing.
Shape has not gone

Hung on a wide hanger between wears and the shoulders have not collapsed, the hood still stands and the front hangs straight when it is fastened. My previous coat was sagging across the back by January and never recovered from it at all.
Waist strap does nothing

Excellent coat and I would recommend it without hesitation. The strap across the back at the waist is decorative, it does not buckle or adjust, so it cannot pull the shape in the way you might expect from looking at it. It looks good and it is doing no work at all, which slightly annoys me. Everything else about the coat is genuinely excellent and I would buy it again.
Never went back in

Toggles have real weight

Wears over a suit

This is definately the reason I bought a camel one rather than navy. Over a dark suit it lifts the whole thing and it does not read as country clothing that has wandered into town. The three quarter length covers a suit jacket completely with room to spare.

Hood bulks at the neck

Beautiful coat and beautifully made. When the hood is down it sits as a fair amount of fabric across the back of the neck, so under a rucksack or against a car headrest it pushes up against you. It is the trade for having a hood that actually works when it is up. I would rather have the hood and the bulk than neither of them.
Toggles are quick enough

I assumed toggles would be a nuisance and was withuot doubt wrong and after a week you do them without thinking, in about the same time as a row of buttons. Faster than a zip if you only fasten the top three, which is how I wear it most of the time.
Second one in the family

My brother bought one first and I ordered mine after borrowing his on a cold afternoon. They are identical in fit and shade despite being ordered months apart, which tells you the sizing has not drifted. We have had to agree not to wear them to the same things.
Placket doubles the fastening

Genuinely good coat, no regrets at all. The inner button placket behind the toggles means there are two rows of fastening to do rather than one, so getting into it properly takes longer than you would think. It is why it keeps the wind out, so I am not really complaining, but it is worth knowing. Once you have done it twice it stops being something you think about.

Better than my last one
