Sharper in the hand

Good coat and I am keeping it, but be aware of what you are getting. The listing talks about a lapel and the collar is actually a flat shirt collar, so it sits close to the neck rather than opening out. It looks perfectly fine, it is just not at all what I had pictured when I ordered it. I would still order it again knowing that now.

Two hand warmers and two above them, and all four are deep enough to be worth having. Gloves in one, phone in another, and nothing shows through the front of the coat.
Pockets have no flaps

Solid coat and I wear it constantly. The front pockets are open with no flap over them, so when you lean forward things can work their way out. I have caught my phone twice. I keep it inside a zipped bag now and it is not an issue. Everything else about the coat has been completely faultless so far this year.
No coat over the top

Wore it through most of the autumn with just a jumper underneath and it did the job easily. The wool blend has body and the lining is not that thin slippery stuff which lets the wind straight through the back. I have not reached for the heavy coat once yet this year.
Needs a layer underneath

Very good coat but it is a mid weight rather than a winter one. From October to about December it is perfect on its own. In a hard frost I want a jumper under it, whereas my old heavy coat did not need one. Worth knowing what you are buying. Buy it for the season that it is actually made for.
Right length for a coat

Three quarter is definately the length I keep coming back to. Long enough to cover a suit jacket properly, short enough that you are not gathering it up to get into a car or catching it on every stair. It hits just above the knee on me and that is exactly where I want a coat to stop. Getting the length right matters more than anything else on a coat.
Cleaned and unchanged

End of season clean and it came back with no shrinkage, no change in the pattern and the lining still lying flat. I was suprised, because a herringbone is where pressing usually goes wrong and it comes back looking crushed. I will keep having it done at the end of each season.
Bought it last minute

Left it far too late as usual and ordered five days before I needed it. Turned up with two days in hand and needed nothing doing to it before wearing. I would not recommend leaving it that late, but it worked out.
Handles rain well

Caught in a heavy shower with no umbrella and the water sat on the surface rather than going straight through. Hung it up and by the morning it was dry withuot any marking and no shrinkage. I would not call it waterproof but it is a great deal better than I expected.
Weave has depth

Up close you can see the grey and the black going in and out of each other and it gives the cloth a life that a flat dyed coat never has. At ten paces it is simply a very good grey coat, which is rather the point of a pattern like this. A flat dyed coat simply cannot do that at any price.
