Campus day layer
I wore this on a college campus visit with comfortable shoes and jeans. The waistband gives the jacket some shape without squeezing my middle. It looks good with pale denim and a simple bag.
My pick of the two
My friend and I both tried on varsity styles, and this was my pick. The lining is smooth over my long-sleeve shirts, which makes getting ready easier. The pockets handle tissues and earbuds without much trouble. I kept it on while we waited for a table and only took it off when the restaurant started getting warm.
Favorite sleeve detail
My favorite part is the contrast at the sleeves, especially when the front is open. The front buttons don't make a lot of noise when I walk around. My little cousin immediately recognized the varsity inspiration.
My weekend jacket
My niece called this my weekend jacket before I had even worn it outside. My hair doesn't get tangled in the ribbed collar, which is a relief. The color looks calm next to my brighter tops.
Glad it has snaps
Snap buttons are a nice change from the zipper jackets in my closet. The inside phone pocket keeps my screen from rubbing against my keys. I usually avoid shiny black outerwear, so the soft finish appealed.
At the baseball game
I took this to a chilly baseball game and kept it on between innings. The color-blocking works with my old jeans and a plain crewneck. The black doesn't look overly formal with sneakers.
The ribbed hem
The ribbed waistband sits where I want it instead of riding up immediately. The sleeves give just enough contrast without needing any extra accessories. I like that this shade doesn't fight with patterned scarves.
The striped cuffs
The stripes at the cuffs are a little touch I didn't think I'd notice. The snaps line up easily, so the front looks even when it's closed.
Collar feels comfortable
I was hoping the striped ribbing wouldn't feel scratchy around my neck. The sleeves are easy to move in when I'm holding a grocery basket. Black was the sensible choice for the clothes I wear most.
A small pocket note
The contrast between the body and sleeves is a fun detail in person. I wore it on the bus without feeling bunched up at the waist. The faux suede attracts some lint from my scarf.
Side pockets in the right spot
The side pockets are positioned where my hands naturally go when I'm waiting outside. The polyester lining helps it slide on without twisting the shirt beneath it.
Easy birthday outfit
I threw this on for a casual birthday gathering without planning an outfit first. It has the familiar letterman shape without pretending to be team merchandise. My sister tried it with leggings and preferred that outfit. I wouldn't choose it for a freezing day, but for those in-between afternoons it feels like the right amount of outerwear.
I wanted deeper pockets
I kept my transit card inside and didn't have to hunt through my backpack. The front stays neat when I button only the middle snaps. I wish the side pockets were slightly deeper.
The faux suede body
The soft faux suede body looks quite different from a regular cotton varsity jacket. The fabric feels pleasant for an afternoon of walking and sitting. I sat through a movie without feeling stuffed into the sleeves.
Works with running shoes
I wanted a jacket that doesn't feel too dressed up with running shoes. The striped trim brings the whole thing together better than plain ribbing would. The contrasting material gives it a different feel from denim.
Lighter than my old varsity
My older varsity jacket is heavy, so I was looking for something lighter. The striped waistband doesn't stick out awkwardly over high-rise pants. Against darker jeans, the matte black still shows its texture.
One note on the sleeves
I have narrow wrists, and loose cuffs are usually a problem with outerwear. I can leave the snaps open and still get a nice shape at the hem. The waistband hits higher than I had pictured.
Something different for basics
I mostly wear solid colors and wanted one jacket with a little more going on. The striped cuffs and hem give it that old-school varsity feeling without big lettering.
Snap front takes practice
I don't usually buy snap-front outerwear, but I liked this particular layout. I like how the textured body breaks up an otherwise plain outfit. A bulky hoodie makes the shoulders feel a touch snug.
No extra puffiness
I was worried a bomber would be too puffy through the middle. The shorter hem works well with loose denim and a simple tee. I can pull it on quickly without doing anything to my hair.
